selling instruments in the studio

IMG_0097.jpg

Sometimes students have lovely instruments to sell and it can be a great win win for for the seller and the purchaser to avoid the dealer in the middle so the students can find something they love at a price the parents love. I am happy to assist and support students in selling their instrument in the studio when instruments are being sold in the same condition for the same price.

How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk
by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish
. A standard in parent/child peacemaking and conflict resolution for many years, this book is one of the number one books recommended by teachers around the country to help parents build more productive and peaceful relationships with their children.  Also standard recommended reading material in conflict resolution training programs, this book shares many of the standard principles explored in mediation and business practices.  However, the authors take these principles into the context of the growing child and helps adults understand and honor the feelings and needs of the child while still allowing parents to find ways to honor and express their own feelings.  Faber anad Mazlin also help adults with the skill of reframing conversations to help engage the willing cooperation of the child and maintain goodwill in the midst of setting firm limits.   This book really helps the readers understand how to interpret the actions of children so they may find common ground and avoid conflict or work out of it before it escalates.  Most importantly this book helps everyone involved maintain honor their needs, their self-esteem, and find peaceful solutions.

The Inner Game of Tennis
by Timothy Gallwey
While the subject of study is Tennis, all the ideas on separating the ego from the process are not only transferable, but hit the nail on the head.  Although the Inner Game of Music is available, The Inner Game of Tennis is the ultimate in how to stay in the moment and in the process, how to eliminate tension, rigidity, and fear, how to keep from being distracted by the subjective and judgmental ego, and ultimately to find a high level of ability for greatness in whatever craft is chosen.  All this, while freeing the mind and relaxing the body.

by Barbara Coloroso
Barbara Coloroso helps parents, teachers, and all who work with children explore concrete ideas for developing inner discipline in children while honoring their abilities and needs and finding a balance between the extremes of external discipline or lack there.  Barbara brings readers a faith in the ability of children to learn to self direct activities and problem solve both as an integral part of the family and society and on their own.  The book “focuses on helping kids develop their own self-discipline by owning up to their mistakes, thinking through solutions, and correcting their misdeeds while leaving their dignity intact”.  This is one of the best parenting or educational book I have read in a long time.

Your Child’s Self-Esteem
by Dorothy Corkille Briggs
Recognizing that self-esteem and emotional health are key components of child empowerment Dorothy helps parents find ways to trigger this level of personal growth in their children.  Dorothy helps parents better understand the underlying cause of certain behaviors, how they help children grow, and how parents can better use these behaviors to help them understand their child’s needs.  The book also helps parents find ways to honor children's feelings so the children grow and find ways to honor their own emotions and most importantly, learn to honor themselves.  As the children recognize their strengths they no longer need to resort to distructive behavior to regain lost power or loss of self-esteem.  With these ideas, Dorothy Corkille-Briggs gives parents tools to reinforce their child’s positive behavior and self-esteem and tools on how to communicate so the children know that they are surrounded by an environment of emotional and physical safety with the power they need for discipline, productive behavior, and happiness.
